  • Jay and Silent Bob go live on the big screen
"Kevin Smith: Live From Behind Featuring 'Jay and Silent Bob Get Old,' " will beam a live feed from Canada of Smith and Jason Mewes in character to theaters in that country and the U.S.

Kevin Smith's characters Jay and Silent Bob have enjoyed a life long beyond the run of their cult movie, "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back." The actor-director-writer (Bob) and his "heterosexual life mate" Jason Mewes (Jay) have made public appearances in character and have put out 64 editions of their podcast, "Jay and Silent Bob Get Old."

  • Culinary SOS: Thai green chicken curry from a San Luis Obispo restaurant
Novo Restaurant shares its recipe for a rich and flavorful soup-like concoction.

Dear SOS: Recently my best childhood friend treated me to a creekside birthday dinner at beautiful Novo Restaurant in San Luis Obispo. We both had the Thai green chicken curry, and it was absolutely incredible. I tried an online recipe that was good but just didn't reach the level of excellence that Novo's creation did. I would love to have the privilege of getting that recipe if possible!

  • Syl Johnson's modern stroke
He had slipped into obscurity until samplings of his work by the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye West made him in demand. His anthology is up for two Grammy Awards.

It's been close to 10 years since Chicago soul/funk legend Syl Johnson played L.A. on or off camera. "I did 'Soul Train' and 'American Bandstand' out there," said the singer and guitarist, whose 1967 hit, "Different Strokes" (with its signature grunts and laughs), was a calling card of sorts for Johnson. "I used to love L.A."

  • Punk rock and media art collide in MOCA program
Southern California's early punk and media art scene is the focus of the film program 'Strange Notes and Nervous Breakdowns' at MOCA. It's part of the museum's 'Under the Big Black Sun' exhibition.

The early SoCal punk scene wasn't all guitars, mosh pits and visions of chaos — although there was a good dose of that, thanks to bands such as the Germs and Black Flag. Rather, the music was experimental, arty and all over the map.
